HYDERABAD: With Telangana gearing up for procurement of paddy in the next few days, the state government has asked police and transport department to prevent entry of the staple from neighbouring states.
Chief secretary Somesh Kumar, who held a tele-conference with district collectors and officials from agriculture, marketing and civil supplies department on Wednesday, directed that the number of paddy procurement centres should be more than those set up last year.
A special officer should be appointed for every procurement centre to monitor operations. Emphasis should be laid on procuring gunny bags under the supervision of a special officer.
The services of the agricultural extension officers should be utilized for paddy procurement to ensure that farmers get the minimum support price, which has been fixed at 1,960 per quintal, the chief secretary added. He instructed collectors to set up control room to monitor the f procurement in the district.
