Early morning fire destroys pallets at Keyes Fiber in Wenatchee

Firefighters from Chelan and Douglas counties were able to contain a pallet fire at Keyes Fiber in North Wenatchee early this morning that sent flames shooting high into the sky.

Crews from Chelan County Fire District 1 and Douglas County Fire District 2 responded to the fire at 3:19 a.m.

The pallet yard is near a power substation at Keyes Fiber but firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the substation, said Fire Chief Brian Brett.

Brett said it’s the third such fire they’ve responded to at the North Wenatchee site off Highway 97A, with the most recent being in the afternoon of June 20, 2018.

Burnett said Keyes has been very responsive to building in fire safeguards, including water cannons near the pallet area.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire and there is not yet an estimate of the dollar-value of the damage.

There were no injuries.
