Gov. Whitmer proclaims March 2022 as Procurement Month in Michigan

Gov. Whitmer has officially proclaimed March 2022 as Procurement Month in Michigan. The goal of Procurement Month is to recognize the work and contributions of public purchasing professionals, who serve an essential function within state governments by acquiring the goods and services essential to state operations.

DTMB’s own Central Procurement Services serves as the State of Michigan’s central purchasing office and sets purchasing policy, establishes high dollar contracts, and works closely with purchasing professionals in other departments. Central Procurement also hosts a variety of other services in the course of their day-to-day responsibilities, including training, contract monitoring, and certification to ensure that the State of Michigan gets the best value for its money and remains a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars.

Public purchasing is complex, and the breadth of procurement in Michigan is immense. The yearly spend is in the billions, and there are well over a thousand contracts at any given time throughout Central Procurement and their agency partners. In addition, there are a lot of rules and policies in play to ensure public funds are spent responsibly. We’re grateful for the extremely talented and hardworking individuals at Central Procurement and throughout state agencies. Michigan’s purchasing professionals are some of the best in the nation, so please join us in wishing them a Happy Procurement Month.
