KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala
The invalidity of government’s preferential procurement regulations as per the recent Constitutional Court judgement has not been received well by some leaders in KwaZulu-Natal.
The KZN provincial executive council has expressed misgivings in response to the circular by National Treasury instructing government departments to stop procurement following the judgement, which declared the 2017 regulations invalid.
Premier Sihle Zikalala said the executive council is concerned with the “paralysis” and backlog in the supply chain that this will create. “The executive is supporting every effort by the national government to speedily resolve this matter and will be engaging with national government on the matter,” said Zikalala in a statement.
