LUBBOCK, Texas (News Release) — The following is a news release by the Lubbock Police Department.
The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred at 3:58 a.m. March 4 in the 5600 block of the W. Loop 289 southbound mainlanes.
A Chevrolet Traverse, driven by 41-year-old Johnny Lemons, was traveling southbound on W. Loop 289 towing a trailer with a boat. The boat also had several wooden pallets on top of it, which fell off as Lemons was driving. Lemons stopped his car to try to pick up the pallets.
A Chevrolet Express van, driven by 33-year-old Bryce Stilwell, was also traveling southbound on W. Loop 289. Stilwell saw the Traverse and trailer, and attempted to veer around it, but struck the trailer and Lemons.
A Jeep Cherokee, driven by 54-year-old Steven Castillo, was also traveling southbound on W. Loop 289, and struck the van as it attempted to veer out of the way of the Traverse.
Lemons sustained serious injuries, and was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center. Stilwell sustained moderate injuries and Castillo sustained minor injuries.
The investigation is on-going.
