Here are the top stories today in Houston:

1. Superintendents from five Greater Houston area school districts (Aldine, Houston, Spring, Spring Branch and Tomball) will join the Center for Public Service & Community Research’s inaugural presentation of its Commerce Colloquium with “A Superintendent Roundtable”, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 1st at the College of Public Service, Room C100 and via Zoom. 2. Scores of people lined up along West 34th Street in Northwest Houston starting at around around 3 a.m. in hopes of getting a free box of food for the 8 a.m. distribution event. Over 1,000 received aid after some people waited in line for hours and all the boxes were passed out within forty minutes. (ABC 13)

3. Houston’s newest food hall has lost two of its most high-profile tenants. Salt & Time and the Butcher’s Burger have closed at Post Market. The closure seemed to be a surprised to the restaurant staff. They shared, “We are sad it didn’t work out and wish everybody at the Post the best.” (CultureMap Houston)

4. Funeral arrangements are set for a San Jacinto County Precinct 1 deputy who was killed in a mall shooting in Houston last Wednesday. Visitation for San Jacinto County Precinct 1 Deputy Neil Adams, 62, will take place from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd at the San Jacinto County Community Shelter, located at 225 Like Oak in Coldspring, Texas. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, also at the San Jacinto County Community Shelter in Coldspring, Texas. (Fox 26 Houston)

5. A Missouri City man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after shooting two security guards while free on bond in 2019, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced on Saturday. The case was investigated by The Houston Police Department. (ABC 13)

  • Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Saturday issued a statement condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He said, “In Houston, we stand for freedom; for democracy; and for the safety and security of all residents. We join with cities and countries around the world calling for an immediate end to the violence, to protect human rights, and for the return of peace in Europe.” (KHOU 11)
