Ordinary is the extraordinary at this ‘factory’

“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light comes in.” The idea behind these lines resonates in the foundation of The Good Talk Factory (TGTF), a community of young enthusiasts who provide a platform to unheard voices to share their stories as they believe every story is worth sharing. “A dyslexic woman overcame her communication issues and found new confidence in her after she participated in TGTF events,” says Raghu Dutt, founder of TGTF, with great pride.

After training 5 lakh students within a span of eight years, Raghu wanted to do something for the unrecognised people who live an extraordinary life. And hence began the journey of TGTF. While recalling his initial days, he says, “There was a time when I saw that people were given a platform to share their stories on the basis of their popularity.

Of inspiring stories

‘Who wants to hear your story if you are not famous?’ I wanted to change this and hence came the idea of TGTF. We put no restriction of any kind to people who wish to share their stories. I believe every individual has the potential to create an impact on lives.”

TGTF gives freedom of expression to people to express themselves in any medium they want — be it open mic, poetry recitations, theatrics or any other form.Anyone can register with them by filling up a form which is put upon their social media sites. After reviewing their application, the person is informed about the theme and invited to the event.

Their first anniversary event, held on December 15, was inaugurated by a student of Raghu, whom he taught during his ‘Teach For India’ days. He recalls the first time he met her, she was unable to spell a word correctly. “But recently, she completed reading the Harry Potter series!” says Raghu with a spark of confidence in his eyes.

In the past, the team has conducted events for Telangana State Innovation Cell and the British Council as well. They wish to expand their base out of Hyderabad to other cities as well. While working on a non-profit basis, they face the issues of sponsorship or raising funds to meet their objective of empowerment of the child education.

Failures and rejections in Raghu’s life didn’t disappoint him but motivated him to pursue his goals. “Never give up. I believe in the universal law of getting back what you deserve. So, keep going !” he said with determination.
