On strike for a week, they ratified a new deal with the company Wednesday, the union that represents them said in a brief update that evening.

“The members of UFCW Local 175 at Dr. Oetker ratified the memorandum of settlement today by 62 per cent,” Jennifer Tunney, communications co-ordinator for Local 175, said in the statement.

Tunney said she did not have any further details, such as how the deal that was accepted differed from the final offer from Dr. Oetker that was rejected ahead of the strike that began last Wednesday.

About 230 people were on strike. The plant, opened in 2014, is on Nova Court near off Veterans Memorial Parkway south of Bradley Avenue.

At the time they launched their job action, workers made about $20 an hour, bakers $26 an hour and skilled trades $38 an hour.

The two sides had been in talks on a new contract since September and had had 10 days of bargaining and conciliation before employees walked off the job.

Only 60 per cent of the members attended the strike vote and of that, a slim majority, 56 per cent, voted to strike.

The issue for the members who did vote was a proposed staggered pay raise that would have seen some workers earn more of a raise than others, depending on their category.

Some workers would have gotten a bump of 95 cents an hour in the first year and others 50 cents, with all workers gaining 40 cents an hour in each year of the remaining two years on the three-year contract offer.

The bargaining committee did not recommend acceptance or rejection of that offer before it was turned down by employees.
