Pablo Martinez Obituary (1931 – 2022) – San Antonio, TX

Pablo Martinez, Jr., passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Laredo, Texas, to Maria De Jesus Perez and Pablo V. Martinez. Dad married the love of his life and sweetheart, Amelia Nora Martinez, in 1954.
Dad enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., 2 Armored Division. He helped train troops in the use of model 47 & 48 Patton tanks and was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant. Upon his discharge, he returned to Laredo, Texas to raise his family and began to work with his father-in-law’s freight forwarding business. He then became employed with the Texas Department of Human Services in public assistance until his retirement in the 1990’s. During his time of employment with the State and after the birth of all of his children, dad completed his college education that he started at Texas A&M University at College Station by returning to school at Texas A&I where he attained his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Spanish. Post retirement, together with our mom, they opened their own freight forwarding business. He continued to work later in life as the office manager at his daughter’s private law practice in Laredo, Texas until 2018.
Both our father and mother sacrificed to put all of their five children through private catholic schools in Laredo and were active in all school activities at St. Augustine High School and Ursuline Elementary, including being president of the Parent Teacher Association at St. Augustine. Upon graduation of their youngest child from high school, St. Augustine honored our parent’s life long commitment to the school by awarding them a cherished plaque of service. Dad was also a life long parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Laredo, Texas. He was preceded in death by, his parents; wife, Amelia Nora Martinez; daughter, Nora Diana Martinez; sister, Genoveva Salinas (Carlos), and brother-in-law; Aurelio Ramon Rodriguez. Dad is survived by his loving daughter, Elizabeth Martinez, and sons, Pablo Alberto Martinez, Ricardo David Martinez (Iliana), Eduardo Javier Martinez (Karen), and 6 grandchildren; Ricky, Andrew, Christopher, Amelia, Lucia, and Nicholas, and 1 step-grandchild, Alan. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Hector Ruben Rodriguez (Rosa), sisters-in-law Mary Ellen Rodriguez and Melinda Rodriguez, and numerous nieces and nephews. We ask that his family and friends share any fond memories they have onto his tribute wall at porterloring.com.
