A Texas manufacturer of residential doors plans to establish a new facility in southern Georgia, company and state officials announced.
San Antonio-based Steves & Sons Inc. will invest $16 million to acquire and renovate an existing 150,000-square-foot structure in Ashburn, Georgia, into an “advanced distribution and value-added facility.” The project is expected to add 200 new jobs.
Company officials said the project would help Steves meet the growing demand for its interior and exterior doors and bolster efficiency in key markets. The facility will particularly support its door manufacturing plants in Tennessee and Virginia and provide access to the Port of Savannah.
“By utilizing Georgia’s world-class Savannah port, we solve many of our company’s key logistical challenges with the state centrally located in key markets we serve from two of our other assembly plants,” Scott Lovett, the company’s vice president of operations, said in a statement.
Local officials said the announcement represented the largest manufacturing expansion in Turner County in 40 years.
“This is a true testament to what rural Georgia has to offer,” said Turner County Development Authority Executive Director Sam McCard.
