‘Major player’ in ATL corruption released

Adam Smith, Atlanta’s former chief procurement officer, has been released from federal custody 15 months early on a three-year sentence of supervised release. He previously served 27 months in prison. Smith was convicted in 2017 of accepting $40,000 in bribes to steer millions of dollars in city contracts to a construction firm. Lohrasb Jafari, the man accused of paying Smith, is facing his own trial this year and is said to have been a “major player” in the scandal-ridden administration of former mayor Kasim Reed. saportareport.com
