US denounces Houthi attack on freight ship

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Jan. 4 the United States denounced the takeover of a freight ship by Houthi protestors on Hudaydah coast in western Yemen. The ship raising UAE’s flag was stolen on Sunday’s evening.

State Department spokesman Ned Price said, “These actions interfere with freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and threaten international trade and regional security,” adding “these Houthi actions come at a time when all parties should be de-escalating and returning to inclusive political talks.”

He reported that the United States asks Houthi rebels to directly free the vessel and its staff all safe and to halt violence that holds back the political discussions that would cease the Yemeni war.
