Livingston County planning community-wide distribution for COVID test kits, masks | Public Service News

Livingston County, which distributed nearly 1,500 masks and 500 COVID-19 test kits to residents in selected zip codes on Thursday, is planning for a broader county-wide distribution in early January.

The county has set a tentative date of Jan. 8, though details are still being worked out and the date is subject to change. The distributions are expected to be at fire halls and schools.

The previously announced Jan. 6 distribution events will continue in the targeted zip codes, Livingston County Public Health Director Jennifer Rodriguez told the Livingston County News.

COVID-19 test kits and KN95 masks will be distributed in a coordinated effort by the County Board of Supervisors, Department of Emergency Management and local fire departments.

“Our first distribution (Dec. 30) was for specific zip codes based on a state-recommended distribution plan to target areas with low vaccination rates,” Board of Supervisors Chairman David LeFeber said in a statement. “For this next event, we are focusing on a broader, community-wide distribution, utilizing our local fire departments and their volunteers to reach as many of our communities and residents as possible.”

Livingston County will distributed COVID-19 test kits and KN95 masks on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Community members are eligible for one COVID-19 test kit per household member, with a maximum of two kits per household.

The previously announced distribution events had a mask limit of two per household. A limit has not yet been set for the larger distribution event.

“It will depend on the number attending,” Rodriguez said. “It may be higher per household if our supply holds up.”

Those looking to pick up test kits and masks must be residents of Livingston County and bring a picture ID with them to the distribution event.

The date, times and location are dependent upon receipt of home testing kits provided by New York State.

The county expects to have updated information next week, and will post to the county website and its Facebook and Twitter social media accounts.

On Dec. 30, the county gave out 468 test kits, which equates to 936 tests total, and 1,486 masks, Rodriguez said.

Distribution events remain scheduled for Jan. 6, 2022: They are:

■ Jan. 6: York Town Hall, 3668 Main St., York, 3 to 6 p.m. For residents in the zip codes of 14486 and 14533.

■ Jan. 6: Scottsburg Community Center, 7351 Route 256, Scottsburg. 3 to 6 p.m. Only residents of zip code 14545 are eligible.

■ Jan. 6: Portage Town Hall, 2 North Church St., Hunt. 3 to 6 p.m. For residents of zip code 14846.

Only residents of the specified zip codes are eligible to pick up the test kits and masks. They must bring a picture ID and provide a signature in order to pick up kits and masks.

The county received 2,400 test kits and 27,000 masks from New York State for its initial distribution events.

The county anticipates having test kits left after next week’s distribution and expects to add a distribution event or site next week.
