Preferred Popcorn feeling the pinch of supply chain issues

CHAPMAN, Neb. (KSNB) – Supply chain issues were an unforeseen side effect of COVID-19, and they have taken their toll on Preferred Popcorn in Chapman.

Norm Krug is the founder and CEO of Preferred Popcorn, and yesterday he was able to testify in front of the Senate Transportation Committee on Capitol Hill.

He told the committee that his biggest difficulties have come in the form of international exports, normally when he sends popcorn to Japan it takes just over 30 days to get to its destination, but now he says sending popcorn takes over five months.

“We reached out to Senator (Deb) Fischer’s office and she’s on the transportation committee and was really helpful and brought me in as a witness to share our story so they could take appropriate action,” Krug said.

Despite their shipping issues, Preferred Popcorn, has not needed to shrink the size of their workforce.
