Kinnow exports from Pakistan are predicted to be limited to 300,000 tons with an anticipated decrease of 35 per cent compared to the previous year due to the significant increase in sea freight cost, climatic changes and lower production numbers.
Exports to the markets of Russia, Canada, Ukraine, Indonesia and the Philippines is likely to decrease significantly this year. Pakistan exports 50 percent of its total kinnow export volumes these countries.
Kinnow exporters are facing a lot of uncertainties in the current season as large-scale export preparations have not yet started, even though the season is due to commence today.
Last year, kinnow export stood at 450,000 tons against the target of 350,000 tons, when the cost of sea freight to Russia, an important international market was $2500-3000 per container which has now been enhanced to $7000 per container.
