HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday left for Delhi while his cabinet ministers, MPs, and officials will follow him later to persuade the centre to announce the target for procurement of rice from rabi season which will start from December.

While the ministers will confer with central ministers, the officials led by chief secretary Somesh Kumar will sit with their counterparts at Delhi and work out the finer aspects of procurement.

According to sources, the Chief Minister has sought an appointment with the Prime Minister and if it materialises he will discuss the problem of plenty in the state with him and prevail on him to direct the FCI to procure 90 percent of the Kharif produce expected now and also clear the air about whether the center would take raw rice from rabi season if it is not interested in taking boiled rice.

The Chief Minister is expected to utilize his stay in Delhi to meet the agitating farmers, in the backdrop of his announcement of paying Rs. 3 lakh to the kin of each of the 750 farmers who had died during the course of 13-month agitation.

He will also pledge his support to their other demands/ with the centre already capitulating on the contentious farm laws and declaring that it would withdraw them. The CM would also press for the withdrawal of the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill and legislation to back the MSP payable to farmers for various crops.
