[SMM Annual Summit] Imported Bauxite Prices to Increase in 2022 Amid High Ocean Freight In 2021 and Limited Marginal Demand Increments_SMM

SHANGHAI, Nov 18 (SMM) – The alumina plants in Shanxi and Henan passively joined the technical renovation of the import lines, and the current capacity of the imported lines nationwide has reached 57% of the completed alumina capacity;

It is not cost-effective for imported products amid high ocean freight, while new projects using imported ore deferred delivery. The bauxite imports stood at 81.457 million mt in January-September, down 7.5% year on year. The year-on-year decrease is expected to be about 6%;

Imported bauxite is expected to show positive growth in 2022 amid falling ocean freight, increasing demand and rising domestic prices.
