Nassau Dairy Barn To Become An Independent Drive-Thru Coffee Shop

NORTH BELLMORE, NY—Dairy Barns are a nostalgic Long Island sight that are becoming less common. But one Nassau County man decided to maintain the drive-thru magic of a former Dairy Barn and open an independent drive-thru-only coffee shop in a former North Bellmore Dairy Barn.

Buzz’d Express Coffee is slated to open in early December at 1799 Bellmore Ave.

Greg Carmada, a Massapequa native, graduated college in 2020 and found himself looking for a job during the height of the pandemic. He had an idea for a two-lane drive-thru coffee shop, something he saw on the West Coast that Long Island just didn’t have, he explained to Patch. Then he thought, why not take a Dairy Barn and convert it?

Carmada found interested investors, and now at only 24 years old, is putting the finishing touches on his first business.

“We want to be a specialty coffee shop that has something to appeal to everyone. People are being pretty receptive about the idea so far,” he said.

Buzz’d will serve Southdown Coffee, a Long Island brand, and breakfast, lunch and baked items from a high-end grab-and-go food wholesaler. There will be two lanes—one for pre-orders made on an app for the business and one for real-time orders. High-speed ovens will prepare breakfast sandwiches quickly.

“We want to make everything as fast as possible. Coffee is an on-the-go kind of thing.”

And Carmada’s vision isn’t limited to this one location. He wants to eventually expand across Long Island, and become a chain, offering a unique to the East Coast business model.

“Maybe we will be the next Dairy Barn one day, a staple across Long Island.”
