Gunmen attack factory in Niger, abduct four workers

At least four persons have been reportedly abducted by gunmen in an attack on a sachet water factory in Tegina community, Rafi LGA of Niger state.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the factory on Sunday night, abducting four workers.

A resident of the area told TheCable that the incident happened around 8pm.

According to the source, the gunmen invaded the community, shot sporadically into the air, while residents scampered for safety.

The source added that the factory is near Government Girls’ Secondary School in Tegina.

Wasiu Abiodun, police public relations officer in Niger, has been contacted for comment on the attack.

This is the second reported attack by gunmen in Tegina community in 2021.

In May, 156 students were abducted from Salihu Tanko Islamic School in Tegina when gunmen invaded the school.

The incident is also the latest in a series of attacks by gunmen in the north-central state.

Last week, one person was killed while two others were abducted when gunmen attacked Gidan-Kwano, the host community of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, the state’s capital.
