People of color in the Commonwealth are getting vaccinated at lower rates than white residents.
Several factors are responsible for the lower rate in vaccinations, including access to vaccine distribution centers, eligibility requirements that favor older (and whiter) residents, and vaccine hesitancy among communities of color, spurred by a long history of racist abuse in the medical field.
We dive into the issue with Michael Curry, the head of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, former president of the Boston branch of the NAACP, and a member of the national NAACP’s board of directors, and Raynolda Hamilton, a lead nurse at the Brockton Neighborhood Health Center, and one of the health center’s vaccine ambassadors, to answer your questions about vaccine hesitancy, access, and eligibility in communities of color.
