Machine catches fire at Hawkesbury factory

Hawkesbury firefighters responded to a fire at an industrial plant on Cameron Street on the morning of December 24, 2020.

According to Fire Chief Daniel Gascon, the call to the Ampak packaging plant was received at 11:19 a.m. and firefighters were at the site until 1:41 p.m.  A machine in the factory had caught fire and the building’s sprinkler system activated and had extinguished the fire by the time the fire department arrived.

The factory was not in operation at the time of the fire, so no employees were inside the production area.

Gascon could not provide an estimated value of the damage and said that the investigation continues into what caused the machine to catch fire.
