Multiple countries ban travel from Scotland

Multiple countries have banned travel from Scotland in response to the new Covid variant detected in the country.

France announced last night, a ban on travel from any UK ports for 48 hours, taking place from Sunday December 20 at midnight.

Ireland has banned all travel for 48 hours from Sunday, although ferry crossings for freight will continue.

Germany has banned all UK planes from landing after midnight on Sunday, with exceptions for cargo.

Belgium has suspended flights and trains from the UK for 24 hours, from midnight on Sunday.

Italy has blocked all UK flights until January 6.

Bulgaria has suspended flights from the UK from midnight on Sunday, until January 31.

Turkey and Switzerland have also banned flights from the UK.

Austria has also announced plans to ban UK travellers but no details have been given yet.
