Factory fire near Vic airport contained

Firefighters have contained a large blaze at a factory near Melbourne airport.

The Tullamarine factory on Assembly Drive was engulfed by fire on Wednesday afternoon.

Three aerial appliances, 10 pumpers and 60 firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control just after 3.30pm on Wednesday.

Residents of Tullamarine, Airport West, Keilor Park, Melbourne Airport have been told to avoid the area due to a large amount of smoke.

Paramedics were on scene assessing evacuees, with EPA officers also on site to support fire services.

Assembly Drive and Mohr Street are closed to traffic.
