Some cities go to great lengths to attract supply chain activity, while others have the role of logistics hub thrust upon them. 

Ports, fresh roads, inland infrastructure and an advantageous tax code can bring shippers and carriers knocking. Large populations draw e-commerce warehouses and last-mile operators into every crevice of available real estate.
