Biden will aim to return focus to coronavirus during Wisconsin trip, aide says
During his visit to Wisconsin on Monday, Joe Biden will attempt to redirect some of the focus of the race back to the coronavirus, keying off the death toll in the United States approaching 200,000, an aide said.
Biden plans to issue a stark warning about the risk of additional deaths and advocate preventive measures, such as wearing masks, said the aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to preview the former vice president’s remarks.
While in Manitowoc, Wis., Biden will make an appeal to working-class voters who had supported Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 and then switched allegiances to Trump in 2016, the aide said, noting that Obama won the surrounding county by more than seven percentage points in 2008 and Trump prevailed by 21 percentage points in 2016.
The aide said Biden plans to reprise an argument made during a town hall event last week in Pennsylvania: that he understands the struggles of voters like those he grew up with in Scranton, Pa., while Trump is looking out for those on Park Avenue in New York.
