84 jobs will be axed as Worcester distribution centre closes

MORE than 80 people will lose their jobs after a major business is set to close its distribution centre in Worcester.

A source told the Worcester News that staff from Wolseley, a distribution service provider, were told today (February 10) that they have been ‘let go.’

The distributor of plumbing and heating products, in Wainwright Road, near the Shire Business Park, confirmed 84 roles will be made redundant.

A Wolseley UK spokesman said: “We announced on 17 October 2019 the proposed closure of our Worcester distribution centre as part of a wider change to our supply chain network.

“Following a review and a consultation process we have concluded we can strengthen our overall UK business by improving efficiencies and maintaining customer service, operating out of two UK distribution centres instead of three.

“Regrettably, this decision will result in approximately 84 roles being made redundant, with the Wainwright Road site expected to remain operational until early summer 2020.”
