63 Tonnes Of Edible Oil Worth Over 1 Cr Seized | Visakhapatnam News

Visakhapatnam: Despite a series of raids by the enforcement officials, some traders continue to create artificial scarcity of edible oil and are charging an additional 15 to 20 per litre of sunflower oil.
Speaking to TOI, additional SP of vigilance and enforcement wing, Vizag, G Swaruparani said they have conducted raids to check hoarding of edible oil by unscrupulous traders at various places in the city and district on Saturday also.
“We have found that a wholesaler of Chinna Veeraswami Trading and Company at Anakapalle in Vizag district unauthorisedly operated a godown and stored 63 tonnes of edible oil worth over 1 crore. The oil stock was seized and a case was booked against the accused. We have also conducted surprise raids at 13 shops and registered three cases in total on Saturday,” she added.
Consumers say the traders are creating artificial shortage of edible oil and selling it at high prices claiming demand and supply gap due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis. “I went to a big store to purchase sunflower oil packets, but I didn’t find a single packet as the staff said there is no stock. Then I bought palm-oil packets to run my kitchen,” said G Ramya, a native of Madhurawada.
