3 things to know about the Browns lineman

The Cleveland Browns are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2002 thanks in part to their strong running game.

While running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt get the spotlight, the Browns have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Anchoring the line at left tackle is rookie Jedrick Wills.

Oct 11, 2020; Cleveland, Ohio, USA; Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Jedrick Wills (71) is introduced before the game between the Cleveland Browns and the Indianapolis Colts at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The No. 10 pick in the draft from Alabama, the 6-foot-4, 312-pound Wills has graded out at a 61.5 in his first season by Pro Football Focus.

Here are three things to know about Jedrick Wills

Playing left tackle a new experience for Jedrick Wills

While at Alabama, Jedrick Wills was a standout on the offensive line – at right tackle.

There were some concerns before the draft about moving him to left tackle. Those concerns, though, have been put to rest.

“In terms of transitioning as really any rookie left tackle, let alone one who had not played left tackle really ever for a significant period of time, we are pleased with him,” Browns EVP of Football Operations and General Manager Andrew Berry said.

Jedrick Wills: Baker Mayfield’s Progressive co-star

Who is that starring alongside Baker Mayfield in the ‘Baker Mayfield is a Gamer’ and ‘Baker Mayfield Joins a Book Club’ commercial for Progressive Insurance? None other than his offensive lineman, Jedrick Wills.

“Batman and Robin,” is how Progressive’s business leader of creative management, Meghan Walsh, described the teammates.

Basketball was Jedrick Wills’ first love

Growing up in Kentucky, Wills played basketball through his sophomore year at Lexington’s Lafayette High School (also the alma mater of former Cavalier Dirk Minniefield).

A broken foot his sophomore year convinced him football was his path to success.

And basketball is in his blood. His mom, Sivi, played in college at Eastern Kentucky.
