Two Jackson County men were sentenced in federal court for their roles in attempting to distribute more than 50 pounds of meth.
In a news release from Steven D. Weinhoeft, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Jonathan R. Moore, also known as “J-Mo,” 34, of Carbondale, and Elijah S. Lacy, also known as “E,” 35, of Murphysboro, were recently sentenced after each pleaded guilty to one count each of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and one count each of attempted possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. The release says the offenses occurred in Jackson County between December 2018 and January 2019.
Evidence during their plea hearings revealed that Lacy and Moore were involved in the distribution of high-purity meth, known as ice. The release says Moore had multiple packages of ice mailed from California to Jackson County residences, which were then distributed by Moore, Lacy and others throughout Southern Illinois. According to the release, Moore in late January 2019 arranged to have approximately 56 pounds of ice mailed from California to three Jackson County residences. Lacy received one of the shipments.
During the hearing Tuesday, the release says, Lacy was found responsible for distributing approximately 12.6 kilograms of ice, and was sentenced to 235 months in federal prison — more than 19.5 years — to be followed by five years of supervised release. He also was ordered to pay $700 in fines.
