The number of active coronavirus cases reported in Wyoming increased by 18 on Saturday, with new laboratory-confirmed cases reported in nine counties.

The Wyoming Department of Health, in its daily coronavirus update, reported 35 new laboratory-confirmed cases on Saturday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases seen since the first case was detected in Wyoming in March to 1,713.

At the same time, the number of patients to recover from the illness since March grew by 21 to total 1,611 on Saturday.

New cases were reported Saturday in Albany, Carbon, Fremont, Laramie, Lincoln, Sweetwater, Teton, Uinta and Weston counties. Teton saw the largest growth with 10 new cases.

As of Saturday, Fremont County had seen 369 cases since the illness was first detected in Wyoming; Laramie County had 250; Uinta County had 180; Teton County had 161; Sweetwater County had 159; Natrona had 150; Park had 80; Campbell had 74; Albany had 51; Lincoln had 42; Washakie had 38; Sheridan had 30; Big Horn had 27; Carbon had 19; Converse and Johnson had 18; Sublette had 11; Hot Springs had 10; Crook and Goshen had nine; Weston had four; Platte had three, and Niobrara had one.

The number of patients to recover since mid-March grew by 21 to total 1,611, including 1,299 patients with confirmed cases and 312 with probable cases.

A recovery is defined as when a patient has gone three days without a fever and has seen improvement in respiratory difficulties.

A probable case is one in which a patient has coronavirus symptoms and has been in contact with someone with a known case, but has not been tested for the illness. Since mid-March, the 395 probable cases have been reported.

The new cases pushed the number of active cases in the state to 475, including 392 patients with confirmed coronavirus cases and 83 with probable cases. Laramie County continued to have the highest number of active cases at 91, followed by Fremont County at 85.

Niobrara and Platte counties had no active cases as of Saturday.

Active cases are determined by adding the total confirmed and probable coronavirus cases diagnosed since the illness first surfaced in Wyoming on March 12, subtracting the number of recoveries during the same period among patients with both confirmed and probable cases and taking into account the number of deaths attributed to the illness.

Although 24 Wyoming residents have died as a result of the virus, two of those patients were living in Colorado at the time they were diagnosed with the illness and they were not counted as confirmed cases in Wyoming.
