(KRCS) aid distribution campaign at Tunisia

KUWAIT, Nov 30 (KUNA) — Kuwait continued its humanitarian efforts and activities this week in different parts of the world, met by applauds from senior officials and organizations.
Head of the Delegation of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Ahmed Al-Faqaan said last Tuesday that KRCS, in coordination with Tunisian Red Crescent Society, has launched a distribution campaign at the governorates of Bizerte, Jendouba and Beja in northern Tunisia.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Faqaan said that the KRCS campaign, which was supervised by the Kuwaiti ambassador to Tunisia, included distributing aid to about 400 families suffering from the recent rains in Tunisia.
The aid included coupons and cleaning supplies, as well as heating materials to cope with the cold wave and snowfall in the northern governorates of Tunisia every winter, he added.
Al-Faqaan underscored that this campaign falls within the framework of the humanitarian work provided by Kuwait to those in need and affected by difficult climatic conditions all over the world, under the leadership of the humanitarian leader, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Meanwhile, KRCS announced last Wednesday the provision of urgent support to Yemen in fighting epidemic diseases at the west coast governorates of Al-Hudaydah and Taiz.
Secretary General of KRCS Maha Al-Barjas told KUNA that KRCS will implement an emergency medical program to help dengue, malaria, diarrhea and diphtheria patients, reducing the spread that continues to the west coast governorates of internally displaced people camps and communities.
KRCS will keep providing and delivering medicine to hospitals that are crowded with people suffering from these diseases, through their duty of humanitarian relief, she added.
Al-Barjas explained that health offices at the west coast governorates recorded several cases of epidemic diseases, pointing to the increasing daily preparation of hospitals and health centers, which suffer from scarcity as a result of the current situation that the country is going through.
The epidemics and diseases are significantly increasing in Yemen, without the ability to stop the spread risk or reduce the possibility of transmission through people, in addition to the great shortage of medical materials necessary for preventing various diseases or treatment, she added.
The health sector was one of the most affected by the events in Yemen, which directly affected the lives of citizens and spread diseases such as cholera, dengue fever and other infectious diseases, she mentioned.
KRCS is keen to support Yemen out of Kuwait’s quest to achieve the concept of drug security for the people there, Al-Barjas informed.
Another point, KRCS last Friday sent ambulances and transport to Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), as part of its continuous support to countries affected by natural or manmade disasters.
After transferring ambulances and transport vehicles, KRCS Envoy Menhal Al-Enezi said that KRCS, as an active member, is eager to provide assistance in coordination with Indonesian authorities.
Al-Enezi pointed out that sending vehicles is a continuation of aid provided by KRCS, after the earthquake struck Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island in April 2018, adding that they also distributed volunteer teams and relief assistance to those affected.
This support is part of many initiatives of Kuwait’s contributions in strengthening PMI to serve citizens and the needy in areas of natural disasters, he explained.
During Al-Enezi’s visit to Indonesia, the delegation was briefed on the situation of displaced people affected by Sulawesi’s earthquake and the nature of the services provided to them in terms of health and relief. (end)
